Caol Ila 2009 13yo Sassicaia Cask Finish 45% G&M Connoisseurs Choice - 70cl
A heavily peated offering from Gordon & McPhail, one of their Connoisseurs bottlings.
This is typical Caol Ila fare. An Islay malt that doesn't hold back, starting life in an ex-bourbon refill cask and then finished for two years in a Tuscan Sassicai red wine cask to produce a stunning whisky bottled at 45%.
A nose of dried figs, a smidge of cinnamon, some chocolate and peat smoke. The palate finds more smoke and subtle notes from that big bold Tuscan wine, redcurrants and forest fruits.
All in all a good job
