In the hills above the Spey between Knockando and Craigellachie, in Morayshire, is the home of the Cardhu distillery. Originally owned by John Cummings, a well-known smuggler and his wife Helen, a woman adept at hiding the still.
Todays operation is a much more legal affair and is the home of Johnnie Walker.
The Cardhu 12 Year Old is a good starting point for those wishing to expand their single malt experience. It's a full flavoured well-balanced single malt. Hints of pear with honey notes on the nose, and finish that's smooth and lingering.
