In case you hadn’t realised yet, we’ll say it louder for the people at the back… we LOVE Otley. We are the Green family, a family born and bred in Leeds. We've been running businesses in the area since 1989. Today, we operate from the beautiful historic town of Otley.

In 2021, we gave birth to our latest project: Barber & Bennett Wines & Spirits. The name isn't so random - Barber and Bennett are family names!

We’re proud to be from Yorkshire and we like to show that with the fantastic wines and spirits that we sell. We stock a selection of delicious wines that have been made in vineyards in Yorkshire, as well as gins and other spirits that have taken botanicals from the Yorkshire Dales and have been distilled in the counties. We don’t only sell Yorkshire products as we offer some of the finest whiskies from Scotland and wines from all over Europe.

Our store is located next to the historic Wharfebank Mills. If you're planning a picnic on the bank of the river, pop in and grab a chilled bottle of Leventhorpe Wine and a tub of Yorkshire Crisps to enjoy. Delicious!

Otley off-licence

We're not an off-licence; in fact we’re much more. Yes, we sell classic brands like Jack Daniel’s and Gordon’s, but you'll find a great range of premium spirits from new smaller distilleries too. 

If you’re looking for a local gin, try Otterbeck’s selection or Whitby - both small Yorkshire distilleries that we adore. We also sell a range of premium mixers: our current favourites are Raisthorpe Manor tonic waters, which are so flavoursome and don’t have any bitter aftertastes that you get with cheaper, screwtop tonics. 

 

Visit Otley

If you’re looking to visit a town with lots of traditional British culture, glorious country sites and a genuine community spirit, then Otley is the place for you. Located just off of the River Wharfe, Otley is a historic market town that connects the buzzing city of Leeds to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. 

If you’re into hiking, then a trip to the top of the Chevin will satisfy your needs to explore the great outdoors, taking in the fresh Yorkshire air and stunning views over the Wharfedale. If you’re a keen cyclist, create your own race by journeying down the tracks that make up part of the Tour de France as well as Tour de Yorkshire. 

If you like the outdoors but aren’t keen on exercise, then set up a picnic on the banks of the River Wharfe  - you might be able to spot the salmon leap out of the water or even see the otters swimming upstream. 

The cobbled streets are great for wandering around and can be seen regularly on popular TV soaps and dramas that are set or filmed in Yorkshire. There’s lots of town history to discover in Otley; did you know that it was home to England’s first interior designer, Thomas Chippendale? 

Otley is a town that’s also trying to be more green. In recent years a hydroelectric scheme on the River Wharfe has been introduced which generates green electricity for the area. 

 

Otley Shops

The town offers you independent shops selling stunning antiques, quirky gifts and local produce; our local butcher Weegmanns has even won awards for their delicious pork pies. 

 

Otley Market

Otley Market is a fabulous haven of market stalls, selling everything from clothes to crafts, food and drinks, jewellery and gifts. It’s located in Otley Market Place on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday between 8.30am and 3.30pm. On the last Sunday of the month there is a popular Farmer’s Market too. 

The market is a big part of Otley’s culture and has been going for over 100 years. 

 

Otley Pubs

Otley has a selection of charming English pubs that date back to before the English Civil War. It’s here where you’ll find real local ales, great pub-grub and a friendly atmosphere - just what you want from a local watering hole! 

 

Otley Folk Festival

Every year, usually in September, Otley has a folk festival where folk musicians perform and everyone gets together to celebrate and have a few drinks from the local pubs. If  you're visiting for the festival, why not order from us online and pop in to collect, we’d love to say hello and maybe provide you with a tipple for the festival.
